The University of Hong Kong topped The Times Higher Education rankings of the most international universities in the world for 2023. Three other colleges in the city — City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and Hong Kong Polytechnic University — also made the Top 10 for this year.

The rankings are compiled using the international student score, the international staff score, the international co-authorship score, and the international reputation of each institution. Other universities in the Top 10 are based in Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The Times Higher Education rankings for the most international universities of 2023.

While The Hong Kong University held on to its top position from 2022, City University (No. 4) and Hong Kong Polytechnic (No. 6) were new entries. However, HKUST (No. 5) dropped two places from last year’s rankings. The list, which features a total of 197 institutions, also includes the Chinese University of Hong Kong (No. 17).

In addition, the Times Higher Education list for best universities in the world places the University of Hong Kong as the fourth-best in Asia at No. 31, only preceded by Tsinghua University (No. 16) and Peking University (No. 17) in Beijing, and National University of Singapore (No. 19). Other SAR institutions that made the Top 100 include The Chinese University of Hong Kong (No. 45), HKUST (No. 58), Hong Kong Polytechnic (No. 79), and City University of Hong Kong (No. 99).
