Two Hong Kong hotels have been included in the inaugural World’s 50 Best Hotels list. Rosewood Hong Kong bagged the No. 2 spot, while The Upper House took the No. 4 position. The best hotel in the world for 2023 is Passalacqua in Moltrasio.

The Rosewood, a five-star hotel, was acknowledged for bringing the Rosewood Hotel Group’s “signature luxe hospitality experience” to the city, with its elegant interiors, elevated dining experiences, and its popular bar Darkside, which ranked No. 9 on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023 list. Rosewood’s international ranking also gives it the distinction of being the best hotel in Asia.

The Upper House earned its spot on the list for its “cutting-edge creative floating above Victoria Harbour”. The André Fu-designed hotel’s aesthetic of an ‘upward journey’ ensures a seamless flow throughout the space as it travels between the floors. The establishment’s artwork collection totalling 400 pieces and its modern, restorative spaces cement its position as the third-best hotel in Asia.

The list was announced on Tuesday at a ceremony in London’s Guildhall, and was created by The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy — a group of 580 anonymous leaders in the hotel industry, each selected for their expert opinion and background in the hotel scene.

Earlier this year, 15 Hong Kong hotels were also named in the prestigious La Liste rankings of the world’s 1,000 best hotels for 2023. The Top 10 featured The Mandarin Oriental (No. 4), Rosewood Hong Kong (No. 6), The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong (No. 7), and The Landmark Mandarin Oriental (No. 7).

This year’s World’s 50 Best Bars will be announced on October 17 in Singapore. Two Hong Kong bars featured in last year’s list —  with Coa coming in at No. 17 and Argo at No. 28.
