Tai Kwun, the cultural and recreation hub on the site of the former Central Police Station Compound, will stage its annual InnerGlow programme from January 26-February 14, 2025. The free-to-enter three-week event will feature 3D architectural projections displayed at the Parade Ground and at the Prison Yard during Chinese New Year. Read on to find out where you can catch the shows and what this year’s theme will be.

What is InnerGlow?

InnerGlow started in 2022 to bring creative and technical exponents of 3D architectural projection mapping technology to Hong Kong to transform the façades of Tai Kwun’s Barack Block at the Parade Ground with light and animation displays. Tai Kwun also runs a mentorship initiative called InnerGlow Searchlight that showcases work from student artists at D Hall at the Prison Yard and the wall opposite it.

When is InnerGlow 2025?

Next year’s edition of InnerGlow will take place from January 26-February 14, 2025. The full programme will be announced in December 2024. This year, Tai Kwun and its creative and technical partner The Electric Canvas will team up with Hong Kong new media artist Hung Keung, who will bring his distinctive sensibility and his profound interest in and knowledge of Chinese culture and literature to devise a vibrant visual journey at the Parade Ground. Local multimedia artist Ng Tsz Kwan will spearhead InnerGlow Searchlight, which will showcase nine works from student artists.

The display at the Parade Ground for InnerGlow 2024 was inspired by the Year of the Dragon and the Tai Hang Fire Dragon, and was projected on the Barack Block every half an hour from 6:30pm-9pm. This was followed by half-hourly InnerGlow Searchlight shows from 6.45pm-9.15pm at the Prison Yard.
