Two Hong Kong bars are included in the 51-100 rankings of the World’s Best Bars for 2023. Penicillin took the No. 71 spot, while DarkSide came in at No. 97. Singapore had the most bars on the list (5), followed by New York and London (4 each).
Other cities in Asia that found places in the 51-100 rankings included Tokyo (2), Bangkok, Seoul, and New Delhi (1 each). In 2022, there was only one bar from the SAR that made it to this list — Quinary, which came in at No. 56.
The World’s 50 Best Bars for 2023 will be announced in Singapore on October 17. Last year, two Hong Kong establishments made it to the top 50: Coa (No. 17) and Argo (No. 28), which was a new entry on the list.
The rankings are arrived at through a voting process by The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, which includes 680 beverage experts from 28 regions across the world, comprising bartenders, consultants, writers, and cocktail specialists. Each member casts seven votes based on their bar experiences over the preceding 18 months.
Earlier this year, Coa topped the Asia’s 50 Best Bars List for a record-breaking third consecutive year. Seven other venues from the SAR were included in the rankings: Argo (No. 8), DarkSide (No. 9), The Aubrey (No. 17), Penicillin (No. 26), Quinary (No. 31), Mostly Harmless (No. 33), and the Old Man (No. 47).
