The University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and City University all made it to the World University Rankings 2023 list put together by Times Higher Education.
The list includes 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions that were assessed on four criteria: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The University of Hong Kong came in at No. 31 and is the highest-ranked tertiary institute from the SAR on the list. Chinese University of Hong Kong (45), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (58), and Polytechnic University (79) all rose from their 2022 positions. City University of Hong Kong, at No. 99, entered the top 100 for the first time this year.
In addition, more Mainland Chinese institutes were included this year. There are a total of seven Mainland Universities in the 2023 list, and Tsinghua University (16) is the top-ranked Asian one.
The news comes after three Hong Kong schools — Harrow International School Hong Kong, Hong Kong International School, and Kellett School Hong Kong — made it to the Spear’s Schools Index of the best 100 private schools in the world.
