K11 Art Mall and Hong Kong-based joke platform 9GAG present the world’s first in-person museum to exclusively highlight the phenomena of Internet memes. Viral memes have been handpicked for display, ones that went viral in Hong Kong and worldwide. From 16 July to 5 September 2021, consume memes in a way you never have before, with the 2D images displayed in innovative mediums and with the addition of olfactory elements and Augmented Reality technology.

K11 and 9GAG are also jointly presenting the first ever meme-themed NFT artwork. “In Meme We Love” gathers around 100 of the most viral memes ever in a visual representation of Internet zeitgeist. The one-of-a-kind work will be on display in the museum for visitors to peruse and will go on auction mid-July.

The museum is divided into seven unique zones:

In the Meme-time, a time tunnel analyzing the evolution of memes that highlights 24 classic memes from the 60’s to today.

Meme-go-round, a rotating display of five categories of memes, including ones that play off of local humour and animated classics.

Meme Me, the Snapio instant photobooth where you can become the character of your own personalized meme. Choose from a library of preset dialogues and classic meme scene backgrounds to make the iconic moments your own.

Another part of many Hongkonger’s childhoods, Yes!Card is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Make a new memory with $1 limited edition meme cards at the multiple Yes!Card machines dotted around the mall. You can even scan the card’s QR code for a chance to win $200 shopping credit.

Beyond the Meme, where memes like “Side Eyeing Chloe” and “Confused Nick Young” have been reconstructed using AR technology and paired with a scent to immerse you in the meme.
