The Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau has added seven new Hong Kong eateries to its Bib Gourmand list. The restaurants include five Chinese establishments, one that serves Vietnamese fare, and another that specialises in Italian food.

Eateries are awarded Bib Gourmand status if they provide diners value-for-money gourmet experiences. In Hong Kong, this means that a diner should get a high-quality, three-course meal (starter, main course and dessert, but excluding drinks) within HK$300. The most recent Hong Kong inclusions are:

Ăn Chơi — Sheung Wan

This Vietnamese establishment captures the liveliness of Vietnamese street stalls. Their bánh mì sandwiches come in an array of fillings, and varying versions of phở are made according to different regional traditions. For drinks, try their egg coffee or Vietnamese beer.

Cheung Hing Kee — Tsim Sha Tsui

This eatery may be best known for its sheng jian bao with soupy pork filling, but it also serves up variations such as shrimp, mala pork, truffle, crabmeat, and roe. Their filling-laden buns are springy and crispy on the bottom.

Little Napoli Pizzeria — Happy Valley

This Italian restaurant was moved from the Michelin Selected list and accorded Bib Gourmand status. Classic Neapolitan pizzas and street foods like ripieno fritto and panuozzo are made with only ingredients from Naples. Pizzas such as Margherita or Vesuviana are made to order, baked in an Italian stone oven at 400 degrees Celsius, and served whole, not sliced.

Man Yuen — Wong Tai Sin

Man Yuen finds a place in this year’s Bib Gourmand inclusions for its quality Cantonese dishes made with fresh ingredients. The menu features all-time classics such as wok hei-laden “king of stir-fries” with fresh, dried, and sakura shrimps, which is what keeps foodies flocking to this restaurant.

Sang Kee — Wan Chai

This iconic Wan Chai restaurant moved to a new location that’s bigger and brighter, but has the same menu that’s made it a foodie favourite since 1976. Regulars come here for the salt-baked chicken, pork liver and wolfberry leaves blanched in stock, and baked fish intestine with egg.

Sang Kee Foods — Sai Ying Pun

Anyone who understands the Hong Kong food scene knows that Sang Kee Foods is the place to go for its nose-to-tail concept for Chiuchow-style marinated goose — evident in the menu, which includes goose blood curd, web, wing, liver, intestine, and gizzard.

Twins Liangpi Limited — Mong Kok

This establishment moved from its old location in Prince Edward and now has a dine-in set-up in Mong Kok. The highlights of the menu are the glass noodles dressed in a secret blend of chilli vinegar topped with shredded cucumber, coriander, peas, and ground peanuts. Diners can pick their preferred level of spiciness for their order.

The 16th edition of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau will be revealed on March 14, 2024. Last year, 14 Hong Kong restaurants were inducted into the Michelin guide, with Ta Vie being the only establishment in the SAR to earn three Michelin stars.
