The Southside, the latest MTR mall, kicked off its operations by having a soft launch on December 12. The retail hub, which unveiled its ground floor to visitors, currently has 30 stores open that cover dining options, household supplies stores, and retail outlets.
The mall is spread across 510,000 square feet and is said to be the largest such lifestyle space in Island South. It can be accessed using a new entrance at the Wong Chuk Hang Station MTR station, and is just one stop away from Ocean Park Hong Kong. There are also 235 parking spaces for visitors who choose to drive there.
The architecture of The Southside is inspired by the natural beauty and sweeping coastline of the southern park of Hong Kong Island, which is can be seen in design elements like flowing curves and waves. The mall’s beige palette aims to create an elegant, inviting ambience with an emphasis on natural light. The mall has also teamed up with young local artists and schools in the area so they can exhibit their artworks.
To celebrate the mall’s phase one opening, several of its newly opened stores have special offers. AV Life customers who spend a certain amount will get up to HK$10,000 worth of vouchers, while Jumpin Gym will give patrons who buy 50 tokens an additional 30 free tokens. There are also special deals at Kee Wah and La Crèation for customers who want to pick up end-of-year festive sweet treats.
Hong Kong has seen the opening of two major malls in 2023. The first was The Wai, another MTR mall that opened in July that has the distinction of being the only large-scale mall in Tai Wai. Later in the year, Airside mall opened on the site of the historic Kai Tak airport, just in time for this year’s combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day long weekend.
