Get ready, art lovers — Hong Kong is about to burst into colour and creativity as Art March makes its grand return to the city. The event will be a month-long celebration of arts and culture and will run throughout March. The festival will see over 100 exhibitions, performances, and interactive events taking place across Hong Kong during this time — way up from Art March 2024 when there were just under 15. The extravaganza aims to highlight the city’s thriving creative scene while welcoming artists and visitors from around the world.
Must-See Exhibitions at Art March
This year’s Art March will see the return of Asia’s biggest art fair to the city: Art Basel Hong Kong. Slated for March 28-30 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event will gather 240 galleries from 42 countries and regions, including 23 making their debut. This international showcase will run alongside public programmes throughout the week, reinforcing Hong Kong’s reputation as a leading arts hub.
Art Central will also return to Central Harbourfront from March 26-30 for its 10th edition. Visitors can discover more than 100 galleries and 500-plus artists from over 40 countries and territories. New features this year include ‘Legend’, spotlighting six pioneering Asian artists such as Ay-O, Eikoh Hosoe, Emily Kam Kngwarray, Lee Inseob, Dean-E Mei, and May Fung. There will also be a special focus on photography, alongside the cutting-edge galleries showcased in Neo, the fair’s section dedicated to emerging talent.
The largest showcase of Picasso’s works ever held in Hong Kong will open on March 15 at M+. ‘The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia — A Conversation’ will feature over 60 pieces by the Spanish master from the Musée national Picasso-Paris (MnPP), home to the world’s biggest Picasso collection. For digital art lovers, the Digital Art Fair will run from March 26-30 at West Kowloon Cultural District’s Great Lawn for the first time, featuring more than 40 tech-driven artworks using AR, VR, and AI.
Performances and Outdoor Fun
WestK FunFest, which will take place from March 26-April 27, will offer over 100 family-friendly events, including interactive installations and performances from artists across the globe. Visitors can also enjoy the WestK Street Performance Scheme, launching on March 1, with street acts like music, circus, juggling, and more on weekends and public holidays.
To mark Art March, M+ will offer free general admission on March 9. The museum will open from 10am-6pm, and visitors can enjoy free access to all General Admission exhibitions without pre-registration. The official Art March website will go live on February 14, and will provide all the information about the packed schedule of exhibitions, shows, and outdoor fun.
