The executive director of The Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners revealed the government contacted the group and are in talks to add more hotel rooms to the next designated quarantine hotel (DQH) list, with the current list which expires on November 30th offering approximately 10,000.
Speaking on a radio show this morning, Mr. Michael Li Hon-shing, who regularly comments on industry affairs as a hotel owners representative, estimated that more than 2,000 rooms may be added to bring the total number of available rooms to 12,000.
This is being done with the expectation that there will be an influx of incoming travellers during Christmas and the year’s end, which the government can ascertain based on the number of airtickets booked for that season.
Perhaps in response to complaints that the current hotel rooms are not financially viable for some people, Mr. Li predicted that future hotels on the next DQH list will be mainly four stars and below.
