Hong Kong’s The Chairman is ranked No. 50 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List for 2023. The restaurant, which dropped 26 places from its 2022 spot, is the only restaurant in the SAR included in the top 50. The No. 1 restaurant in the world is Central in Lima.
The 21st edition of the annual rankings, which was announced live at an awards ceremony in Valencia on June 20, included six other restaurants in Asia: Singapore’s Odette (No. 14), Bangkok’s Le Du (No. 15) and Gaggan Anand (No. 17), and Tokyo’s Den (No. 21), Florilège (No. 27) and Sézanne (No. 37).
The Chairman, which placed No. 24 on the World’s Best Restaurants List for 2022, is reputed for its contemporary Cantonese dishes crafted with traditional skills and seasonal ingredients. It bagged the No. 13 spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2023, which included four other Hong Kong establishments: Neighborhood, Wing, Mono, and Caprice.
In fact, both Neighborhood and Wing were included in the World’s Best 51-100 rankings for 2023, which were announced earlier this month. Neighborhood came in at No. 92 and Wing at No. 90.
Hong Kong will host the 2023 Asia’s 50 Best Bars awards, which will feature a live ceremony on July 18. The event is expected to be the first large-scale gathering of Asia’s bar community since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020.
