Oi! Spotlight: People Mountain People Sea by Gary Card
British artist Gary Card has transformed the century-old Oi! Warehouses into a contemporary multimedia art space, using animation and sound to draw the audience into an immersive visual and sensory experience. This is Card’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, which also includes the large-scale outdoor sculpture, ‘The Dream of Mr. Somebody’ on display at Oi! Lawn.

Art@Harbour 2024
Victoria Harbour will be transformed into an outdoor art exhibition space thanks to several interactive installations during the two-month-long Art@Harbour. The second edition of the large-scale outdoor art project will feature the teamLab: Continuous exhibition, which will have hundreds of luminous ovoids that will change colours depending on how visitors interact with them. There will also be a Science in Art exhibition that will highlight two interactive art installations called ‘Harbour Cup’ and ‘Schrödinger’s Bed’, as well as outdoor art installations and digital art façades in Tsim Sha Tsui.

SummerFest HK
SummerFest is making a comeback — this time at two venues along Victoria Harbour. This year, the months-long event will return to Central Harbourfront from June to August, but not before being staged at the recently opened Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space. The Wan Chai event has a variety of sports, music, and dance activities as well as cultural shows and fitness events. Watch this space for more details.

A-Maze-ing Harbourfont
The Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space has opened with an immersive themed experience that features five mazes. Visitors who enter the Time Maze can embark on a journey from the present to the past through tunnels of shadow and light. Then there’s the seemingly endless space in the Infinite Mirror Maze, as well as Lost in the Woods — a paradise hidden within Hong Kong’s unique construction scaffolding and nature. The Light Box Maze is a Rubik’s Cube-inspired installation that emits ever-changing light patterns, while the Air Maze has inflatable installations designed especially for children.

The Sound of Music
The Tony Award-winning The Sound of Music will be staged in Hong Kong for the first time in 2024, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of the beloved musical. Audiences will get to listen to live renditions of popular songs such as Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, and the title song The Sound of Music at the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon Cultural District. The international tour is led by Natalie Duncan as Maria Rainer, Corey Greenan as Captain Von Trapp, and Lauren Kidwell as Mother Abbess.

Edible Flowers and Herbs Exhibition
It’s that time of year with milder temperatures and longer daylight hours, which helps in the growth of edible flowers and herbs in Hong Kong. There will be 500 such flowers and herbs on display at the Hong Kong Park, such as Lemmon’s Marigold, Nasturtium, Borage, Calendula and African Mallow — the last of which live for just a day, yet continues to bloom!

Marvel Season of Superheroes
Hong Kong Disneyland is bringing back its popular Marvel: Season of Superheroes for the second year running. This time around, the Avengers will assemble to take on villain Arnim Zola and Hydra, who are threatening Stark Expo. There will be a new daytime show called ‘Find Your Super Power: Battle for Stark Expo’ and a post-sunset drone show called ‘Find Your Super Power: Battle in the Sky’. Get the chance to meet superheroes like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Ant-Man and The Wasp, pick up special merchandise, and dine on Marvel-themed treats.

Station Rail Voyage
To celebrate MTR’s Corporation’s 45th anniversary, the railway giant is organising an exhibition to give visitors the chance to check out models of old trains and other memorabilia that will take them on a journey of the organisation’s history. The exhibition is divided into three zones, the star attraction of which is the ‘Next Station… Memories’ area, which has three of MTR Corp’s locomotives: the I.B. Trevor, the Fly Head and the Yellow Head. Explore the vibrant history of one of the city’s lifelines and take pictures of some of its iconic locomotives.

Naked Flowers
The renowned Naked Flowers interactive exhibition will be on view in Hong Kong for the first time, giving visitors the chance to participate in a multisensory experience where they can “learn the secrets of flowers”. There will be eight flower-themed digital art rooms, which include a life-size book and a cherry tree-centric room with projection mapping, a flower path with scattered petals, and a kaleidoscope-like space with mirrors.

May fireworks and drone show
The first of Hong Kong’s monthly fireworks and drone shows will kick off on May 1. The 10-minute show will be held over Victoria Harbour in front of the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade, and will feature images like an HK monogram and smiley faces. The drone show on May 11 will take in front of the Wan Chai Temporary Promenade.

Doulos Hope Book Fair
Browse over 2,000 titles at this floating book fair aboard the Doulos Hope, which will dock in Hong Kong for the first time. There will be a wide range of genres on offer — such as science, arts, and novels — at affordable prices. There will also be 100 volunteers from more than 25 countries onboard, who will guide you through the ship during its time in Hong Kong.

Monsters in the Universe
American artist Anchorball, who specialises in large-scale sculptures and digital art, brings giant and whimsical monster-inspired installations to Airside. If you’re in the mood for more fun, head to the Fuzzy Claw Catcher and try to capture the Blue Wuzzle Fuzz and Purple Hazy Fuzz plush toys. Enter the Marvellous Selfie Box to take instant photos with the monsters alongside friends and family.

Books for Love @ 10
Bibliophiles across the city can get their hands on second-hand books for HK$10 at this charity book sale. There are more than 320,000 books up for grabs, which were collected from across Hong Kong in January this year, and proceeds from the sales will go towards the Treasure Trove project of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Assocation of Hong Kong and the Agency for Volunteer Services. All unsold books will be distributed to the organiser’s NGO’s partners.

Bebefinn Live — Bedtime Adventure
Popular animated character Bebefinn will make his Hong Kong debut with two live shows especially for Mother’s Day. The story is set at nighttime at the Finn house on the eve of a family picnic. Bebefinn and his siblings Bora and Brody, who are excited about the next day, cannot fall asleep. They notice a bright star in the night sky and make wishes. Suddenly, a magical flash of light dazzles in the sky and the Finn siblings, along with their pet cat Boo, Finn’s favourite Baby Shark doll, and a very special guest, find themselves on a magical dream adventure in search of a fallen star.

School of Rock The Musical*
Based on the hit film starring Jack Black, School of Rock The Musical tells the story of failed rock star Dewey Finn, who starts working as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and gets students ready for an upcoming Battle of the Bands contest. World-renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has created 14 new songs for the show, including You’re In The Band and Stick It To The Man. This stage adaptation also features all the original songs from the film.
The musical also has lyrics by Glenn Slater who has worked on stage versions of Sister Act and The Little Mermaid, as well as a book by Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame. Since opening on Broadway in 2015, the School of Rock stage adaptation has earned four Tony nominations and won the 2017 Olivier for Outstanding Achievement in Music and the 2017 WhatsonStage Award for Best New Musical.

My Little Pony: The Crown of Friendship
