Hong Kong is experiencing a welcome respite from months of hot weather, thanks to the northeast monsoon, which will see temperatures fall to as low as 23 degrees Celsius during the next couple of days. The city’s local weather forecaster, the Hong Kong Observatory, says that weather will be “mainly cloudy with occasional showers” that may be heavy at times.
In the first half of this week, temperatures will hover between 23 and 29 degrees Celsius. However, it will gradually become hotter from Thursday onwards and temperatures will remain in the 27-32 degree range until next week. During this time, it will be sunny with a few showers.
The temperature drop comes after the observatory reported that the city experienced its hottest Mid-Autumn Festival in 140 years, with the mercury rising to 35.7 degrees at the meteorological body’s headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui. August was also “exceptionally hot”, with the observatory reporting a monthly mean temperature of 29.6 degrees, which is 0.9 degrees above the normal expected during this time.
