Hong Kong rail corporation MTR announced that are more than 100 new trips added to three lines, starting August 31, 2024. There will be 112 extra weekly train trips on the East Rail Line, Tseung Kwan O Line and Tuen Ma Line. In addition, there is a special morning route on the Light Rail during the morning rush hour that will only run on weekdays.

According to the MTR, the northbound and southbound services on the East Rail Line to and from Lok Ma Chau and Lo Wu will be increased during specific times on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays. The train frequencies to and from Lok Ma Chau Station will also be increased to about 8.6 minutes on average, while trains to and from Lo Wu Station will operate at intervals of 5.5-6 minutes.

When it comes to the Tseung Kwan O Line, there will be more trips between the Po Lam and North Point stations on Saturday nights, up from about every 5 minutes to around every 4.5 minutes. The train service between LOHAS Park and Tiu Keng Leng stations will also be increased and run at intervals of around 9 minutes. There will also be more trains on the Tuen Ma Line during weekday evenings, which will depart every 3.2 minutes from Nam Cheong to Tuen Mun.

The MTR also launched the new Light Rail Route 720, a special morning trip that will depart at 7:46am from Monday to Friday, and serve students and residents travelling between Tuen Mun and Tin Shui Wai. It will leave from Siu Hong Stop, and pass through Lam Tei Stop, Nai Wai Stop, Chung Uk Tsuen Stop, Hung Shui Kiu Stop, Hang Mei Tsuen Stop, Tin Yiu Stop, Locwood Stop, Tin Shui Stop and Chestwood Stop to Tin Wing Stop. This route will not be in service on Saturdays, Sundays, school, and public holidays.
