Swimmer Ng Cheuk-yan became Hong Kong’s youngest Paralympian medal winner when she took home the bronze in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB6 event at the Paris Games on Sunday. The 14-year-old finished the race in 1:34.15 minutes, surpassed by Great Britain’s Maisie Summers-Newton, who claimed gold, and silver medalist China’s Liu Daomin.

Earlier in the day, Ng made her Paralympics debut when she competed in the women’s SM6 200m medley, clocking 3:12.95 to beat her personal best time, and made it to the group final. However, despite beating her personal best again when she finished the race in 3:11.95, she placed sixth in the event.

Hong Kong now has two medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, and is placed 51 on the medals table. Ng made waves last year when she claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s 100m Backstroke S6 event at the 4th Asian Para Games Hangzhou and a silver medal in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB6 event at the Para Swimming World Championships.
