Hongkongers are set for a chilly week ahead thanks to an intense northeast monsoon that’s impacting the region, says the city’s local weather forecaster. The Hong Kong Observatory predicts that temperatures will fall to 12 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and mornings will be particularly cool. While the week started off overcast and somewhat rainy, the skies will brighten under the influence of the monsoon on Tuesday.
However, an easterly airstream will bring more cloudy days than sunny ones, with rain patches forecast on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Humidity levels will drop to lows of 50%, but are predicted to touch 90% on Friday. Temperatures will rise to 15 degrees mid-week before falling to 12 degrees again on Sunday. It will be warmer next week, with expected highs of 20 degrees.
Last week, the mercury plummeted to single digits in several parts of the city and fell to 10.6 degrees Celsius at the observatory’s headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui — the lowest of this winter so far. While the first day of Chinese New Year was mainly fine and dry, it was more humid on the last two days of the recent long holiday weekend.
