Hong Kong has been in the grip of panda fever for the past few months, with the birth of twin cubs at Ocean Park last year setting off a spate of events revolving around the adorable bears. Central Market will join the celebrations with a showcase of hundreds of panda sculptures from February 17-March 6, 2025, as part of the ongoing Panda Go! Fest HK. Visitors to the historic building will see the sculptures decked out in Lunar New Year designs as part of the touring exhibition.

Panda Go Fest! HK at Central Market

The Central Market stop will be part of the Chinese New Year edition of the roving display, which began at D·PARK last month. During this time, 800 panda miniatures wearing traditional festive designs made their debut at the atrium of the Tsuen Wan commercial centre. Visitors also got to see the Panda Go! Guide, a lifelike panda who took time out to pose with people for pics.

The panda sculptures first came to Hong Kong last year, when 2,500 went on display at various landmarks of the city: Avenue of Stars, Ngong Ping 360, Ocean Park Hong Kong, and Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park. They also made surprise appearances at the Hong Kong International Airport and the fishing village of Tai O.

Celebrating Pandas in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s panda mania will move into high gear later this month, when the panda cubs make their public debut on February 16 at Ocean Park. The pair — a male and a female aged six months old — are the offspring of giant pandas Ying Ying and Le Le, who have been in the park since 2007. Last year, two pandas from the Mainland came to the city — five-year-olds named Ke Ke and An An who visitors have been able to see since December.

The territory has hosted several panda-themed happenings to celebrate the new panda family, such as the city’s first drone-and-pyrotechnics show and including a panda-centric scene in the recent Lunar New Year Fireworks Display.
