Hong Kong is getting a taste of Willy Wonka’s world this autumn, as the Broadway production of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory makes its city debut from 4 November 2026.

The musical will run at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, bringing Roald Dahl’s classic story to the stage in a large-scale production built around bold visuals, theatrical illusions and a “pure imagination” style of stagecraft.

The show follows young Charlie Bucket after he finds a coveted golden ticket and steps inside Wonka’s extraordinary chocolate factory. Audiences can expect the story’s signature moments and characters to appear in full theatre form, from the chocolate river setting to nut-sorting squirrels and mischievous Oompa-Loompas, as the production leans into spectacle and magic to recreate the factory’s twists and surprises.

First seen on Broadway in 2017, the musical also nods to the 1971 film with familiar songs including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I’ve Got a Golden Ticket, alongside additional music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The illusion work is led by Las Vegas magic and illusion specialist Tim Clothier.

For the Hong Kong run, Daniel Plimpton will star as Willy Wonka, with young actor Oliver Wong playing Charlie Bucket, supported by a cast of Broadway performers.

Ticketing starts with American Express priority booking from 15 May to 1 June 2026, including savings of up to 15%, before the public pre-sale opens from 2 June 2026.
