Indonesia has granted HKSAR passport holders the right to enter the country without a visa for up to 30 days, after President Joko Widodo recently signed a decree allowing nationals of 13 countries visa-free access to the archipelago nation, from August 29, 2024. Hong Kong is now one of three non-ASEAN countries and territories whose nationals have visa-free entry to Indonesia, the other two being Colombia and Suriname.

In 2016, Indonesia allowed citizens of 169 countries and regions to enter without a visa, but revoked the measure for non-ASEAN members in 2023. Currently, visitors from more than 90 countries can apply for an Indonesian visa on arrival, which costs IDR 500,000 (about HK$250) and can be extended for a maximum of 30 days.

As of this writing, HKSAR passport holders can enter 171 countries without a visa or by applying for a visa on arrival. According to the latest Henley Passport Index, Hong Kong has the 18th most powerful passport in the world, with the No. 1 spot going to Singapore, whose nationals have visa-free access to 195 countries.
