In a post-Covid world, cleanliness and hygiene have become more important than ever to travellers — and airports in Asia seemed to have stepped up their game to maintain high standards in this department. According to a report by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax, eight out of the Top 10 Cleanest Airports in 2024 are in Asia. The list included aviation transport hubs in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, with one entry each from the Middle East and Europe.
The World’s Cleanest Airports in 2024
According to the Skytrax list, Tokyo has the cleanest airports in the world, with Haneda Airport taking the top spot and Narita International coming in at No. 6. Seoul’s Incheon International claimed the No. 2 position, followed by Singapore Changi Airport at No. 3. Doha’s Hamad International and Nagoya’s Chubu Centrair International rounded out the Top 5. Hong Kong International Airport ranks No. 8.
RANKING | AIRPORT |
1 | Tokyo Haneda |
2 | Seoul Incheon |
3 | Singapore Changi |
4 | Doha Hamad |
5 | Centrair Nagoya |
6 | Tokyo Narita |

Skytrax also recognised the cleanest airports by region. Tokyo-Haneda emerged the winner in Asia — hardly surprising, given its world No. 1 ranking — and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was deemed the cleanest in Mainland China. Brisbane Airport was crowned the most hygienic in the Australia/Pacific region, while Vancouver International took the honour in North America.
Other aviation honours for Hong Kong
Hong Kong’s aviation hub also found a place among the world’s busiest international airports for 2024 after increasing its seat capacity by 40% since 2023. It was also crowned Asia’s Leading Airport for 2024 at the World Travel Awards, with two of its airline lounges also taking home top honours.
A recent study by global travel data provider OAG revealed that HK Express was the fastest-growing low-cost carrier of 2024 as the airline enhanced its flights by 46%. The report also revealed that Hong Kong-Taipei was the busiest international route in the world as it grew 48% from 2023 to 6.78 million seats last year.
