2024 marks the centenary of the birth of Jin Yong (Dr Louis Cha), a literary giant in Chinese literature. ‘A Path to Glory — Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial’ is a memorial event that encompasses culture, art, creativity, heritage and education, paying tribute to the master of martial arts fiction. Supported by local talent and cultural icons, it aims to foster a unique cultural IP and boost Hong Kong’s tourism and economy.

Apart from the exhibition at Edinburgh Place, ‘Sculpted by Ren Zhe’ will present 22 sculptures of Jin Yong’s iconic characters created by Ren Zhe, as well as the artist’s sculpture manuscripts, from March 16 onwards at Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

NAKED FLOWER Hong Kong — April 27-October 27, 2024

Don’t let the Art March stop. NAKED FLOWERS, the popular exhibition from Japan, is coming to Hong Kong for the first time. From 27 April to 27 October at Tsim Sha Tsui’s 1881 Heritage, this immersive art exhibition will take you on a multisensory journey through eight interactive rooms, from the digital flower gardens of ‘Naked Big Book’ to the floral fragrance of ‘Big Flower Garden’. Early bird tickets are on sale now until 26 April. Stop by the Naked Cafe Bar for floral teas or cocktails, where the interactive round table projects floral designs when a drink is placed down.

In light of Pride Month this June, Hong Kong will host various events celebrating LGBTQ+ pride. At Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour, enjoy “Be More Proud – Rainbow” photo installations, Pei Chung’s art exhibition, the “Urban Pride Getaway” staycation, Draglicious Pride Brunch + Afterparty, and Rainbow Cakes at The Farmhouse Deli. ‘The Next Wave’ Beach Music Festival — June 29-30, 2024

This is the first major retrospective of Ieoh Ming Pei that properly appraises the work of one of the greatest architects of the 20th and 21st centuries. Pei’s high-profile projects were realised over seven decades and include the National Gallery of Art East Building in Washington, D.C., the modernisation of the Grand Louvre in Paris, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha. The exhibition takes an expanded and closer look at Pei’s practice through six themes representing areas of focus and approaches throughout his career.

Celebrating Doraemon’s creator – Fujiko F Fujio’s 90th anniversary, this event features life-sized sculptures, manga art, and movies, plus a new animated short film. Hong Kong Book Fair — July 17-23, 2024

The 34th edition of the Hong Kong Book Fair is the city’s biggest literature event. There will be a wide range of books to choose from, including genres like children’s books, popular fiction, and biographies, among others. The six-day event will also host cultural activities for visitors of all ages groups to participate in.

This year, Hong Kong Book Fair ticket holder can also visit World of Snacks and Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo with the same ticket. World of Snacks brings together a wide collection of snacks and popular treats from around the world, including chips (or crisps), cookies, healthy treats, natural bars and more. Drone Show — TBC

Hong Kong has its second drone show on June 10, as part of the government’s initiative to host monthly fireworks and drone displays. The first show in May celebrated two major city festivals: the Cheung Chau Bun Festival (May 5-16) and Buddha’s Birthday (May 15).
