The musical follows the story of Dewey Finn, an aspiring rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to make some extra money. He then turns a group of straight-A students into a rock band to compete in a competition. Some of the most popular tracks include You’re In The Band and Stick It To The Man, which were written for the musical, as well as School of Rock (Teacher’s Pet) from the film.

Apart from songs by Webber — who is best known for his work on CATS and Phantom of the Opera — the musical has lyrics by Glenn Slater who has worked on stage versions of Sister Act and The Little Mermaid, as well as a book by Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame. Since opening on Broadway in 2015, the School of Rock stage adaptation has garnered four Tony nominations and won the 2017 Olivier for Outstanding Achievement in Music and the 2017 WhatsonStage Award for Best New Musical.
